Welcome to Low Carb Anya π
Hi! I’m Anya Heidi, and I’m so glad you’re here!
I’m an American wife and mom, married to my Hungarian husband and raising our sweet daughter. Low Carb Anya is where my love of family, food, culture, and a lower-carb lifestyle all come together.
The name Low Carb Anya comes straight from the heart. In Hungarian, “anya” means “mother,” and motherhood is such an important part of who I am. Combine that with our family’s love of cooking and our journey toward a lower-carb lifestyle, and it felt like the perfect name for this little corner of the internet.
A Little About Our Family
Our family is a wonderful blend of American and European heritage. My husband is Hungarian and a former chef, so his love of cooking and Hungarian food has always been an important part of our family. I also have Swedish and German heritage, giving us even more European traditions, flavors, and recipes to draw inspiration from. Together, we love spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes, sharing family traditions, and putting our own spin on the foods we love. Our kitchen is where American comfort food, Hungarian traditions, Swedish and German heritage, and European-inspired flavors come together. We’re excited to bring that European flair to Low Carb Anya while creating recipes that are approachable, delicious, and perfect for everyday family life.
Our Low-Carb Journey
Over the past year, my family and I have embraced a low-carb, keto-inspired way of eating and discovered just how enjoyable this lifestyle can be. For us, it isn't about making food boring or giving up the dishes we love. It’s about finding creative ways to enjoy delicious, satisfying meals while making choices that fit our lifestyle. Cooking together has become a big part of that journey. We love taking recipes we grew up with, family favorites, traditional European dishes, and foods we've discovered along the way and finding ways to give them a lower-carb twist. Sometimes that means changing an ingredient. Sometimes it means reimagining an entire recipe. And sometimes it means creating something completely new.
Our journey has brought some wonderful changes for our family, including weight loss, more energy, and a new appreciation for cooking at home. Most importantly, we've discovered that lower-carb eating can still be flavorful, satisfying, comforting, and something the whole family can enjoy.

European Flair, Low-Carb Style
One of the things I'm most excited about sharing here is our love of European food and culture. European cuisine is full of incredible flavors, comforting meals, unique traditions, and recipes that have been passed down through generations. We want to explore those flavors while finding creative ways to make them work for a lower-carb lifestyle. You might find a Hungarian classic one day, a German-inspired family favorite the next, a Swedish treat after that, or an American comfort-food recipe with a European twist. Think European flavors, American family life, and a low-carb approach—all coming together in one kitchen.
Making Low-Carb Food Enjoyable
One of my biggest goals with Low Carb Anya is to show that eating lower-carb doesn't have to mean sacrificing flavor, comfort, or the foods you love. With my husband's professional cooking background and our family's love of experimenting in the kitchen, we enjoy testing recipes and figuring out how to make lower-carb versions that are both delicious and practical for everyday life. These are recipes we enjoy making and sharing as a family, and I hope they inspire you to get into your own kitchen and experiment, too. Whether you're looking for a quick weeknight dinner, a comforting family meal, a special dessert, a Hungarian favorite, or something with a little European flair, I hope you'll find something here you'll want to make again and again.
More Than Recipes
Food is a huge part of our family story, but there's so much more to life than what's on the plate. Through Low Carb Anya, I'll also share pieces of our family life, European heritage, Hungarian culture, travel, traditions, and the everyday moments that make this journey uniquely ours. Whether you're already following a low-carb lifestyle, just getting started, looking for family-friendly recipes, interested in Hungarian and European food and culture, or simply love discovering new recipes, I hope you'll feel at home here.
Thank you for stopping by and becoming part of the Low Carb Anya family.
